Heather Report

A few weeks ago it was looking as if this year might be a vintage one for the heather.  The bell heather had started flowering early, and seemed to be coming along well, and the flowers on the first ling looked good.  We particularly noticed that both were showing well along the roadsides - this is the Sanna road.

Walking across the hills today we noticed that some of the bell heather is beginning to die off, perhaps hurried on by the cold winds of the last few days.  Despite this, the ling still looks good and, if we could only have a warm, dry break, should be spectacular across the hills.

It's hardy stuff, is heather.  This little bush seems to be surviving well on nothing more than the thin soil produced by a growth of moss in a depression in the rock.
