This picture of Mingary Castle was taken yesterday morning, when we took the ferry across from Kilchoan to Tobermory to do some Christmas shopping. While it's disappointing that the project still has a few weeks to go to completion, one can see how much has been achieved. The rebuild of the three buildings in the courtyard - only the north range is visible here - is completed, as are the curtain walls and much of the interior work including plumbing, electrics and decoration.
A large additional work can also be seen. This is the 'sea wall' being built along the bottom of the cliff as an additional stabilisation of the rock on which the castle stands. Shuttering has been erected and several pours of concrete completed. In due course this will be faced with local rock.
The work can be followed at the Mingary Castle blog.
