New House at Sanna

There's a new house being built at Sanna, just to the north of the car park.  It's one of the houses allocated to the six new crofts which were created from the consolidation of the old Sanna crofts.

This view, taken from Plocaig, looks towards the new house from the northwest.  Beyond are the houses of Portuairk, on the other side of Sanna Bay.

  1. Can anyone tell us why it has a sloping roof? Aerodynamics?

  3. For the planners to have passed the plans for an eyesore in a lovely village is an absolute disgrace ,my Grandfather who was born in Sanna must be birling in his grave , what next ? I wait with bated breath.

    1. It is out of proportion with all the other dwellings, let alone... bizarre and sad. I hope it does not set a precendent. There must be the option of contacting the planning authority to see if what has been agreed is being followed...and yes, why it was allowed in the first place...or look out Portuairk too.

    2. It might end up being the nicest house in the area. Think everyone should give it a chance before jumping to conclusions.

  4. What a strange looking thing. Did the foundations sink at one end and they carried on regardless?

  7. Oh dear that looks like a bad mistake. Perhaps it will look better when completed but I wouldn't
    bet on it.

  8. There's avant-garde & there's just plain ugly. I feel sorry for the people who live in the house beside it.

  9. We live next door and had some pretty mean comments written about our house when it was being built. I'm sure there are still those that feel that way about it, but it has started to age and become part of Sanna. Perhaps the new house should be given the same chance.

  10. Get a life people, If you want to build a house then build a house. It might be bigger than the surrounding houses, but it's not a tower block, not an eyesore, just a quirky looking wee house. Why all the consternation from overly concerned outsiders? Surely a new home is for the overall benefit of the West Ardnamurchan community?!

    1. absolutely! beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If people don't want any change perhaps cities should be made of mud huts, lol! :O)

As an outsider, i was alarmed to see so many houses on the peninsula that seemed to be holiday homes. If new builds are for the local community to live there then that has got to be better...oh and please have a road sweeper clear the grit in the centre of the roads from Salen to Sanna...dangerous for motorcycles...or what

  13. Tastes and designs change and a bit of variety makes a place interesting. Surely the most important thing is that it'll bring new people to the area. People complain about folk leaving and complain when new people come so which is it to be? Fade away or keep thriving?

  14. It'll be on Grand Designs, I guarantee it.

  15. I visited Sanna this week, returning to a place where I spent many happy family holidays years ago. I was sad, and shocked, to see this blot on the landscape. I cant understand how it was given planning permission.
