Archaeologists Enjoy a Vintage Week

Archaeologists working at Mingary Castle have had a tremendous week of finds, most coming out of the moat and from the depths of the castle well, which was used latterly as a rubbish dump.

Picture shows what is probably a wine bottle.  It was found towards the bottom of the well, but finds from the moat include musket and cannon balls.

Meanwhile, a lattice of scaffolding is steadily enveloping the whole castle. Very soon it will be possible to use it to move all round the castle walls, enabling the archaeologists to make a detailed record of them.

For a full description of recent activity at the castle, go to the Mingary Castle website, here.
