Wader

Just the the east of Ockle there's a small and very round lochan. On our walk yesterday, these two birds rose from the margins of the water and, after circling, flew rapidly away. The first impression was of plumage which was starkly black and white, but the pictures show that the dark part is deep brown and the head certainly isn't black.

Being unable to identify the bird, the picture was sent to the Raptor, who is fairly sure that these are green sandpipers on their autumnal passage through the north of Scotland to warmer southern winter grounds.

Many thanks to the Raptor for the identification.
