'Eye of the Wind'

The brig Eye of the Wind motored north up the Sound of Mull this morning. She's seen here being passed by CalMac's Clansman.

Later she came back into the Sound with the breeze behind her and her sails up, a fine sight in the early morning sunshine.

Built in Germany and launched in 1911 as the Friedrich for the South American hide trade, she later sailed as the Merry under the Swedish flag in the Baltic and North Seas. In the years that followed, her condition deteriorated until she was saved by a group of English enthusiasts who, in 1973, began rebuilding her in Faversham, Kent, when she was renamed the Eye of the Wind.

If you fancy a sail in her, the website is here, and there's more detail of her history here.
