Frustrating!

There was plenty of warning that the Earth would be struck by a solar storm yesterday, and so it was, but we have no idea whether it resulted in a spectacular aurora over Ardnamurchan because, it being mid-summer, the sky is now light all night, and anyway it would have been obscured by cloud.  Red alerts are rare, and one of this proportion, on a clear winter's night, should have produced something very spectacular.

On the AuroraWatch Flickr site, the first pictures are coming through, with an aurora visible as far south as South Wales.
