From Kilchoan Primary School Parent Council:
The lack of a minibus for the use of the community and primary school has been a big miss over the last few years. With the school now clustered with Acharacle and Ardgour primaries, and increasing opportunities for the children to take part in activities beyond the school, the parent council have made raising the funds for a new bus a number our priority. The new bus will be run by a Minibus Management Committee along similar lines to the previous one, with priority booking for the school but lots of availability for use by community groups. Fundraising started in earnest earlier this year, with Marc MacMaster running the three highest peaks of Wales, England and Scotland in under 24 hours. With welcome donations from Lochaber Housing Association (via WACC) and from local groups such as the Bowls Club amongst others, we have already raised almost £15,000, but with a bus alone costing in the region of £28k+VAT, more is needed! We will soon be applying for external funding to raise the finance needed to purchase and house the bus (to protect it from our lovely Ardnamurchan sunshine!) and we also have a series of fundraising events planned to raise money to fund the running costs and help subsidise the mileage charge that will need to be levied. The first of these is a St Andrew's Night dinner and quiz to be held in the Community Centre on Nov 26th - details here. We hope to see as many of you as possible there but for those who can't be there in person but would like to contribute even a small amount to our fundraising, we have a Just Giving crowdfunding page here (https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/westardminibus).
