Our Emergency Services

HM Coastguard, Kilchoan, was called out last Thursday night after a passenger on the CalMac ferry Clansman reported seeing three white flares between Coll and Ardnamurchan Point. Both the Coll and Kilchoan teams spent some time searching the waters, the Kilchoan team being fortunate that visibility from the lighthouse was good until obscured by a hail shower.

Nothing was found, but this is, in some ways, one of the worst sorts of call-out, as there is always the lingering fear that someone out there was in distress but couldn't be found in the dark vastness of the ocean.

Kilchoan Fire Brigade have attended two chimney fires recently, and wishes to remind householders that they should have their chimneys swept at least twice a year if they're burning wood, and at least once a year of their main fuel is coal.

Many thanks to our local emergency services, which include HM Coastguard, Kilchoan Fire team, our two much-valued nurses, our two doctors, the Strontian ambulance service and the local police, for all they have done for us in the last year.
