Meteor Shower

At 8.15, in yesterday morning's half-light, there was a break in the weather, with the clouds clearing for just a few minutes - and, in that short time, a magnificent shooting star fell from the vault of the sky into the cloudbank that obscured the southern horizon.

This is one of the times of year when there is a good chance of seeing shooting stars. For those of you who are fortunate enough to have clearer skies than we do, the early hours of tomorrow morning see the maximum of the Quadrantid meteorite shower. Look north-northeast, the best time being around 3.00am.

A good website to keep track of the meteor maxima this year is EarthSky, here.
