We had a very stormy night last night. The Diary's anemometer is bust - the blue tits couldn't mend it, it's French - so the wind speeds weren't recorded but, judging by the scattered state of the bird feeders this morning, it must have been gusting to force 8 or more - perfect weather for one of Hughie MacLachlan's cows to get stuck in a bog. Fortunately, local resident Janice Rodger raised the alarm.
Hughie is one of a close-knit family of Kilchoan crofters, so the cow was soon rescued, thanks to the help of brother Titch and sisters Rosie and Nan, and the use of a small digger. For those of you who don't recognise him, that's Hughie hugging his cow.
Many thanks to Rosie Curtis for pictures and story.
