Many thanks to Jim Caldwell who has sent the Diary a picture of the solitary deer which has been coming in to his garden at Portuairk. Can anyone identify the species for us, or is this a deer which is yet another thing which is unique to Portuairk?
Definitely a Roe buck, just starting to change colours from winter to summer coat, which will be be more of a red. As he has just developed (quite strong) forks he should not be older than two years old.
take a look at google images, I think it might be a roe deer. what does anyone else think?
