There was a group of about six to ten of these birds at the shop end of the Ormsaigbeg road, fluttering around from wall to fence and into a field. While they look like linnets, what I take to be the male on the right has no pink in his plumage, which is what one would expect at this time of year.
I'm thinking your linnets are twites which are common in your corner of the country.
ReplyDeletePaul.
Lovely photograph Jon: the depth of field really brings the birds forward.
ReplyDeleteGoing by the stubby bill and dark eye stripe, could they be a pair of Twite - and hence no red markings?
Hi Paul - I think you may be right. Jon
