After Sunday's gale there was a sudden change in the weather, the wind going round into the northwest and the sky clearing to give us some much-needed sunshine. So we took a walk along the beach at Sanna, expecting the usual post-storm collection of flotsam and seaweeds along the beach, but found the place much as usual. These two mallard were taking the sun on the bank of the Sanna Burn which, swollen by the recent rain, stained the inshore waters of the bay a peaty brown.
A large number of small moon jellyfish,
Aurelia aurita, were scattered along the longest of the beaches, the one nearest to Sanna Beag. We had very few jellyfish in the seas around Ardnamurchan last year so hope that this is not an indication that we'll have swarms of them this summer.
Sanna is a wonderful place, not only for its pristine sands and the guarantee that they will be largely deserted, but also for the views. This picture, taken from the narrow bay at the southern end of the beaches, looks across towards the houses of Portuairk.
