Round-Britain Kayaker Approaches Ardnamurchan

Martin Lee is a 32 year old Consultant Rheumatologist who originally trained to be a doctor at Cardiff Medical School. He is taking on the challenge of raising £100,000 for the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society by completing a 2,600 mile clockwise solo circumnavigation of the UK mainland in a kayak. He intends to break this down into 100 marathons in 100 days. He started on April 1st in Greenwich and is going clockwise: he has just reached Southend, at the southern tip of the Mull of Kintyre. He paddles alone and where he has no friends to drive his support car, he just heaves up on a beach and sleeps in a bivy bag.

His planned route takes in Sanna Point and Mallaig. He is due at Sanna Point on 29th May but is running about five days ahead of schedule. He hopes at that stage to have friends driving a support car but he is looking for contacts in the area who might be able to offer him somewhere to pitch a tent or even a bed for the night.

Martin's website is here, and his facebook page here.
