Pigs' Sunset

Bitter news this - the Ormasaigbeg pigs are to take a long ride east tomorrow into their sunset, to return in due course to members of the Kilchoan Pig Syndicate neatly vacuum-packed ready for the freezer.

Today The Five were very much in evidence down by the road, as if they knew what was coming and wanted to say goodbye to some of their admirers at this end of the village. Several passers-by were in tears, and there are rumours of a petition.

One of those due to depart is, of course, Houdini Pig, the great escaper who has once again been out on the rampage. Perhaps all this escapism is part of a master plan, mere practice, so that, when the time comes for him to be collected, he'll have disappeared completely.

There are some new piglets in Hughie MacLachlan's barn. The Diary thinks it's time the east end of the village played host to them.
