This Morning

This picture, taken this morning at almost the exact moment of official sunrise, 08.54, looks from the slipway below the Ferry Stores across Kilchoan Bay towards Mull.  The tangle of seaweed and other flotsam in the foreground comes from the recent exceptionally high tide.

A seagull flies across the sunrise.

As we were walking back from the shop along the Ormsaigbeg road, an eagle flew low over us.  Normally, once an eagle has seen us, he he puts some distance between us, but this one hung around, as if hopeful that one of us might drop down and provide him with a meal.

Here he/she is again, in silhouette.  I really should by now be able to tell the difference between a sea eagle and a golden eagle, but am still not very good at it.  There was no sign of a white tail, but juvenile sea eagles don't have one.  Sea eagles tend to have a more wedge-shaped tail so, at a guess, this is a golden eagle.

Where do you get the exact time of sunrise? I am monitoring the lengthening of the day using times of sunrise and sunset as published in the Herald newspaper. These are presumably the times for Glasgow and are not at all exact.
