Sanna Magpie

Many thanks to the Raptor for this picture of a magpie at Sanna.  Magpies aren't supposed to be resident in this part of Great Britain - see the RSPB distribution map, here - but this one has been around for a while, coming into people's gardens to be fed.  The Diary carried a picture of a magpie in Portuairk some time ago, and wonders whether this is the same bird.

On the subject of things black and white, there are reports of badgers being seen on the north side of the peninsula in places such as Portuairk and Ockle.  While Ardnamurchan is within the distribution range of British badgers, we've not heard of one at this end of the peninsula.

  3. I'm told that, back in the late 80s, the area did have quite a lot of badgers. There was also a huge set out on the point at Ardslignish when May and Bob McNicol lived there. Bob showed it to me one day, amazing, however according to Sandy they are no longer there.
