Concerns were raised when the Scottish Government reviewed ferry services and proposed that the Tobermory route should be downgraded to a passenger-only service for the next ten years. Quoted in the Argyll News - link here - Transport Minister Keith Brown said today, “The current passenger and vehicle services between Tobermory on Mull and Ardnamurchan will be retained as will existing services between Fishnish and Lochaline."
Well done to all those who campaigned so hard to win this decision - particularly Rosie Curtis, Davie Ferguson and other members of West Ardnamurchan Community Council - and to all those, including our MSPs, who worked so hard on our behalf.
Got caught out once with car fares never again just a total rip off like all Cal Mac fares

ReplyDeleteI totally agree with anonymous that the vehicle fares are extortionate but without the vehicle ferry, Kilchoan and West Ardnamurchan are at the end of a very long road. Businesses, crofters and other residents would all suffer from reduced tourism, and lack of access to valued services. At least with the vehicle ferry safely in place we have half a chance of securing the promised inclusion in the RET scheme which should make the journey much better value for money. Thank you to all those who responded to the consultation and who fought on our behalf.

Yes. The ferries are expensive for cars.
ReplyDeleteBut then running them must be very expensive.
It is a wonderful way to visit the Islands in Scotland.
I would be very sad to see them go.
The single trip might be dear but the times I have used it as a car ferry is to buy a "Hopper" ticket and combine routes.
ReplyDeleteIn combination with the Oban - Craignure route it seemed quite reasonable, and spares you from "that" road.
