Looking Upwards

We've had a number of eagles fly over us in the past few days, this one yesterday afternoon and another the day before.  It has a tag on its right wing, so is probably one of the young sea eagles from Mull.

After a run of fine days the weather has broken, the wing swinging round from a northerly direction into the southeast and rising to force 3 to 4.  By this morning it was raining at sea level, but most of the hills around Kilchoan had a thin dusting of snow - picture looks across Kilchoan Bay to the houses of Pier Road, with Beinn na h-Urchrach behind them and Kilchoan Coastguard station at right.

The Geminid meteor shower, a shooting star event which happens around 12th - 14th December each year, should be at its height in the early hours of tomorrow morning, around 1.00am - 3.00am.  While the meteors can be seen across any area of the sky, they appear to radiate out from the constellation of Gemini, the Twins, represented by the stars Castor and Pollux.  On a good night, up to 50 meteors can be seen per hour.  More details here.

According to the weather forecast, the weather here in Kilchoan might clear a little by tonight.
