Druim an Scriodain - 3

At the northernmost point of our walk we came across a gate which allowed us to access the hill called Dun Mor.

It's an impressive hill, the summit surrounded by a cliff. It's name, Dun Mor, means Big Fort, but, when we'd climbed it, we found no evidence of any fortification. Perhaps, for the population available to defend it, it was altogether too big.

Back on the other side of the fence we came across this red deer hind. She has a tag in her ear, which might explain why, although she had seen us in plenty of time, she allowed us to get very close before moving off.

By this time we were close to the little crofting township of Kilmory. It has a very beautiful little walled churchyard, visible in the centre of this picture.

As we turned away south to make our way back to the car we put up this red grouse. But it only flew a few metres before landing. It kept moving through the heather, popping up to check on our position - which made us wonder whether it had a nest close by.

We were out on our walk for some four hours, some of it across very rough going, but it was glorious spending time alone in the hills in this beautiful part of the world.

An interactive map of the area is here.
