
These photographs were taken by Hilary Hizzard on a recent visit to Portuairk, on a day when October was at its best, with a low sun shining through a shower to throw a rainbow across the sea.

A grey seal watched the photographer's every move....

....while this cow grazing above the shoreline ignored her, having far more important matters to attend to.

Hilary has a keen eye for detail. This mass of shells, mostly whelks, limpets and cockles, had collected in a small beach along the eroded peat foreshore....

....while a piece of seaweed lay artistically across the stones of a nearby beach.
