Trooper N. J. King was one of the British soldiers lost on the SS Arandora Star on 2nd July 1940 when she was torpedoed off the northwest coast of Ireland. A full account is to be found on Wikipedia here, and a further account on the Isle of Colonsay website here - click on the red link 'Military Guard' to find a list of British military losses, which includes the name of Trooper King.
The Diary would be very interested to hear from anyone who knows the full story of Trooper King's body being washed up on West Ardnamurchan's shores.
I was very pleased to see this post. I too had photographed the headstone and was trying to do some research but had only got as far as the info on the CWGC site.In another context I am a volunteer for the Dolores Cross Project which takes photos of New Zealand War graves for a New Zealand memorial site.I need some photos taken in Orkney if anyone has any contacts there. Dolores Ho a archivist in NZ makes flax cross by hand attaches a poppy and photographs it for families.I also took a photo of a Donald Nesbit's memorial which I posted on the Great War Forum and had a reply from a relative who had visited his grave in France. It is indeed a small world!
