Many thanks to Tony Kidd for this picture showing CalMac's
Clansman heading down the Sound last night towards an explosion of rainbow colours. Just for a few minutes it was a spectacular double rainbow and, as Tony writes, "it was a wee bit of colour after a dreak couple of hours."
This is called in Gaelic Fadadh-Cruaidh meaning rudimentary rainbow a "dogs tooth" I only learnt this yesterday from my sister Chris. We saw the same thing over Sanna yesterday
ReplyDeleteYes May I learned this too yesterday from Dochie when we saw it from the pier.
ReplyDeleteThe Gaelic Fadadh-Cruaidh means literally "kindle hard" which is used to say something like 'begin difficult', supposedly foretelling stormy weather, so beware the dog's tooth.
ReplyDeleteBoth dictionaries that I use say Fadach-Cruaidh means rudimentary rainbow or dogs tooth. One dictionary belonged to my mother and is very old and the other one is currently being used in schools.
