Well done to Ritchie Dinnes who, as Chairman of the Ardnamurchan Lighthouse Trust, has set up a Facebook page for the lighthouse, thus bringing it into the 21st century; and in two days it has already attracted 100 'Likes'.
The lighthouse Visitor Centre is a charity run by a board of trustees. It attracts over 20,000 visitors each year.
Years ago I met a guy who said he'd been a lighthouse keeper, driving to the Sonochan in a big green van as wide as the road. Think his name was Sam. Does it ring any bells Jon?
ReplyDeleteThe only ex-lighthouse keeper here now is Ian Ramon. He still shows visitors round at the top of the lighthouse. Jon
ReplyDeleteThanks Jon. Looking back through my diaries, it was July 3rd, 1984 when I met Sam. He'd retired aged 65 and was then living in his 'big green van' - though he was hoping to purchase a sea-going 'mobile home', spend the winters holed up in Linnhe or Sunart and cruise the islands in summer. I'd love to know what became of him....
ReplyDeleteJon I wonder if the Big Green Van near to Resipole may be the one , as it has been there for a number of years?
ReplyDeleteThere was an inhabited big green van parked between Strontian and Resipol for many years, around about that time.
ReplyDeleteSomeone must know more about this interesting story?
