A Brave Attempt

Kilchoan Early Bird has just sent in these pictures of a CalMac ferry off the Isle of Muck.  He says, "The shipping forecast is giving storm force 10 - and it looks every bit of it."

The ferry made what the Early Bird describes as a "brave attempt" to reach her destination but, as can be seen, turned back.

Muck is part of a 'black hole' in the AIS system, a sort of Ardnamurchan Triangle, in which ships disappear from the screen, but we think this is the Hebridean Isles.

Some twenty CalMac sailings are currently disrupted.  Conditions must be bad as the Kilchoan-Tobermory ferry hasn't run since the first sailing of the day.

Many thanks to Kilchoan Early Bird for the report and pictures.

  1. Despite being 18 months late, I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to be the first smart alec to be able to tell you that is, in fact, the MV Isle of Arran.

If you're not aware of it already, you may be interested in the Ships of Calmac forum - http://www.shipsofcalmac.com/forum/forum.php - which has everything you need to know about the comings and goings of the fleet.
