Eagles over Ormsaigbeg

For a few minutes this morning it was like the Battle of Britain over Druim na Gearr Leacainn, the ridge that runs along the back of Ormsaigbeg, as three eagles were hotly pursued by three buzzards.

Alerted by the calling of the buzzards, by the time The Diary had collected a camera, two of the eagles, and two of the buzzards, had flown away eastwards towards Kilchoan, but the third, a sea eagle (he had the characteristic white, wedge-shaped tail) had turned back, still harried by the third buzzard.

After five minutes of noisy aerial combat, the eagle finally flew away across the ridge.  A few minutes later, the three buzzards did a victory fly-past along Ormsaigbeg, calling as they went.

We're enjoying an unusually large number of eagle sightings at the moment, though it's surprising that any of them come near us.  Every time they come over they are chased away by some of the larger local birds.  A little earlier this morning an eagle flew over Maol Buidhe, the hill at the west end of Ormsaigbeg, but was seen off by a couple of seagulls.
