The Southeaster

The day has been dominated by a remorseless southeasterly wind which has gusted to force 7 at times. At times it's been a tiresome wind, a worrying wind, but, along with lowering grey skies, it has brought some brilliant sunny interval which have picked out the fresh colours of early summer and some wonderful blues and greens in the sea. This picture looks along the Ormsaigbeg shore and across the Sound of Mull to the coast of Mull.

In Kilchoan Bay the yacht Silurian lay at anchor near the local creel boat Harvester. Silurian belongs to the Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust. Her current blog, along with pictures, is here.

And the sun brought out some beautiful colours in the shallow lochan, sometimes called Lochan na Nal, and the reed beds near The Ferry Stores.

Despite the grey clouds, it didn't rain all day, not until this moment, when a sharp shower has blown in across the Sound. We need this rain.
