Coastguard Exercise

HM Coastguard, Kilchoan, met last week to train with its new dry suits, a generous gift from Janice Rodger and a much-appreciated addition to the team's equipment. While close inshore rescue was possible before the arrival of the suits, it's now much safer and should be a lot more comfortable.

The exercise was carried out by Kilchoan's station officer (right) and his second in command, with the rest of the team working the ropes on shore. Rosie acted as the casualty and Hughie did the rescuing....

....but, as can be seen from this picture, one seemed to enjoy the experience rather more than the other, probably because one of them thought that a tee-shirt would be adequate clothing under the suit....

...much to the amusement of the officer in charge of training.

Kilchoan Coastguard is on 24-hour call by dialling 999. HM Coastguard is responsible for tasking RNLI boats and rescue helicopters - be they Coastguard, RAF or RN - to all maritime incidents in UK waters.
