Archaeologists working at Mingary Castle are investigating the bottom of the castle well, but have plenty of company - in the form of large cave spiders, Meta menardi.
The spiders are venomous since they hunt invertebrates such as slugs but, to quote Wikipedia, here, "They are unlikely to bite if carefully handled but if sufficiently provoked they are capable of inflicting an unpleasant "nip"."
See a report on the archaeologists' work on the Mingary Castle website, here.
