District Nurses

West Ardnamurchan is a very beautiful but very remote area. There are many ways in which we are more cut off than the Hebridean islands. In our emergency services we have to be as self-sufficient as possible. So we have our own Fire and Coastguard stations, a policeman who is resident in the community, and our two District Nurses who are on-call 24/7.

In February 2012, we are threatened with the loss of the District Nurse Service as we know it. With Jessie Colquhoun leaving, Carolyn Ellis is to be moved to duties which, during the day, will take her all over Lochaber. She will not be available for emergency call-out at night. In an emergency, the nearest help will be the Strontian ambulance, a minimum of 50 minutes away.

This is what NHS Highland and the Scottish Ambulance Service propose. West Ardnamurchan Community Council continues to bitterly oppose it. On Tuesday 13th, NHSH and SAS official will come down the peninsula again to meet with WACC representatives. This time, the whole population of West Ardnamurchan has to get involved.

Information on what WACC is asking you to do will come to you by word of mouth, through flyers, and along the usual West Ardnamurchan grapevine. Please support your Community Council.
