As any gardener knows, snails are herbivorous and thus are amongst the most dreaded of garden pests. However, they prefer to feed on partially decayed vegetable matter as this makes the whole process of external digestion and absorption much easier. They have poor sight - can only distinguish light from dark, but have an excellent sense of smell and so the odour of decaying nettle would be a source of great excitement and would mean that they could gather around the dinner table together!
could they be apple snails ??
