A Bit of a Contrast

Which would you rather be doing out on the Sound today, given that it's wet, windy, and there's sufficient of a sea running for our two intrepid local creel fishermen to have their boats tied up in the Bay, though one of them did venture out briefly first thing - and came back in again pretty quick?

Your choice is to don a plastic mac and join a cruise on the Sula Beag, Sea Life Survey's whale- and dolphin-watching boat, which was off Ormsaigbeg this morning.....

....or a take a cruise on Le Boreal, a French ship belonging to Compagnie du Ponant, which passed us at about 2pm this afternoon. Described as follows in the company's blurb...

A superb mega-yacht with 132 cabins, she is the fruit of the expertise of the Italian Fincantieri shipyard and French sophistication, as interpreted by designer Jean-Philippe Nuel. Le Boréal remains faithful to our philosophy - to create a unique atmosphere, a subtle blend of luxury, intimacy and well-being.

Superior materials, discreet elegance and a tasteful décor combined with exterior and interior lines to reflect a nautical mood, subtly revisited. On board, soothing neutral tones are enlivened by splashes of red, our signature theme linking tradition and innovation to create personal touches in the spirit of a “private yacht”...

.... The Diary would rather be out whale-watching.

PS: What is a 'nautical mood, subtly revisited'?

  1. A recurrance of mild sea-sickness?

  2. Please forgive my French, but it sounds like a lot of merd du taureau to me...
