Every community has its handful of committees composed of volunteers who give their time and energies to try to make life better and more enjoyable both for residents and visitors. Off the top of my head, we have the community council, the community development company, the community centre, the lighthouse, the regatta committee, the sports day committee, the history and heritage association, and.... my apologies to those I've omitted.
One of the most forgotten is the West Ardnamurchan Jetty Association. WAJA maintains the slipway by the Ferry Stores, as well as Shore Cottage (at centre of this picture), the public toilets and showers by the shop, and the four moorings in Kilchoan Bay. Its income is.... thin. It makes something from the moorings - which are an annual expense as they have to be checked and insured each year - and the Regatta makes a contribution for the use of the slipway and Shore Cottage.
To try to raise funds, WAJA is running a prize draw for this beautiful hand-made quilt - the above picture, of a picture of the quilt, hardly does it justice. For £1, you have a chance to own it. At present, you can enter at the Community Centre, but you'll also have an opportunity on Regatta Day, at the end of which the draw will take place.
