Bee Infestation

Many thanks to Les Humphreys for sending these pictures of bees on his early-flowering heather, taken towards the end of March.

He asks if anyone can identify the infestation on the bees. He saw them on several bees.

  1. Bee mites

They feed on detritus in Bee nests - hitching a ride on the bee to get to the nest. Probably iritates the bee (who wants to give someone a free ride these days?), but don't do any harm to the bee
