Yesterday's Storm

The weather was pretty extreme yesterday afternoon between 2.00 and 4.00pm, with a gust of 79mph recorded by Dominic Cooper on the north coast and an impressive 116mph on the wind turbine on Beinn Bhuidhe near Camas nan Geall, where the mean wind speed for the twenty-four hours was 42mph.

However, a friend of Dominic's in Iceland has contacted him to say that, while a number of the official anemometers there were destroyed, one that survived recorded a speed of 72m/s or 160mph.

This picture shows Kilchoan Bay just after 2.00pm, at the height of the storm.

Many thanks to Dominic and Eamonn for the statistics.
