As the author pointed out, Britain is perhaps fortunate in not having any active volcanoes but the landscapes left by those in our geological past created some of the most spectacular scenery in the county.
The picture looks from one side of the great Ardnamurchan volcanic ring dyke system to the other, from Beinn na h-Imeilte to Meall Clach an Daraich and Sgurr nan Gabhar, with the crofting township of Achnaha near its centre.
