The Birds of Spring

We're seeing eagles almost daily at the moment. A pair - from the shape of the tails they were golden eagles - flew westwards this morning, disappearing over the ridge of Maol Buidhe, and we assume it was the same pair who came back a couple of hours later (pictured).

Sue Cameron reports that the lapwings have returned to the fields below Pier Road, one of the earliest, and very welcome signs of spring, and we thought we heard a skylark when we climbed the hill at the back of the house this morning.

When we were walking on the lower slopes of Druim na Gearr Leacainn on Wednesday, we put up a pair of red grouse.
