Pictures of the Day

From Ricky Clark

This is the caterpillar of the Emperor Moth, maybe in its eighth change in size. They shed about eleven times before turning into moths in the autumn.

This is a lovely Magpie Moth which has a trick of playing dead if you touch it. It just curls up and falls off the stem it's on.

A beautiful shot of a rain-laded stock of grass. It was about as wet as I was but better to look at.

The Diary adds: We had 23mm of rain yesterday, almost an Imperial inch, so it was pretty wet.

Many thanks to Ricky for the super pictures.
Pictures of the area are always welcome.
