A Grey, Still Day

Not a breath of wind across the Sound of Mull today, the rain occasional, a thin drizzle not amounting to much, perhaps 5mm in the last 24 hours. A day for keeping moving as the midges are out so late this year they're anxious to latch on to any passing supply of blood.

This yacht is tied up at one of the four public moorings in Kilchoan Bay maintained by the West Ardnamurchan Jetty Association. In the distance stands Tobermory Lighthouse and, beyond it, the entrance to Tobermory Bay. This is ideal weather for whale and dolphin spotting.

Few of the the Ixworths at Craigard Croft had shaken a leg at 11am this morning, the two hens who had ventured out preferring to shelter under the nesting box. It was much the same for the humans, the shop very quiet until midday.

With much of the distant view obscured, the pleasure in walking on such a day lies in looking at the detail. The roadside verges are a mass of wildflowers, the grasses fully grown and wonderfully delicate, their heads weighed down with droplets which have condensed out of the drizzle. All it needs is a ray of sunshine to turn the droplets into a million scintillating jewels.
