Return from Holiday

We've been on holiday. Since we used to come to lovely Ardnamurchan on holiday, and now live here, choosing somewhere to go is quite difficult. So we went to Africa, to get some sun. If it weren't for some of the other wonderful things we experienced, we might not have bothered - look at these pictures of West Ardnamurchan taken today as we drove back along the peninsula - the view east along Loch Sunart from Ardslignish, above...

...Camas nan Geall - calm and lovely as ever....

...Loch Mudle, bluer than the Indian Ocean in which we swam only two days ago, with Eigg and Rhum in heat haze along the horizon...

...and the trees still in their summer green as we came down into Kilchoan village.

Many thanks to Rachael, Trevor and Jac, who helped to keep The Diary going during our two-week absence.

  1. Lovely photos! And to think that I nearly took a break in the area last week when you had this great weather - sigh... Need to see what this coming week is like and maybe grab a couple of days.

  2. I've just been on the magicseaweed weather site - it's in the right hand column under 'Websites' - and the weather looks good until Thursday.

  3. We went to Lewis this year as the lads wanted to surf the Hebrides! It required a multitude of arrangements using ferry and plane and car to get all the family to Aird Uig on the west of Lewis. We had a great time and it is truly breathtaking, but we did all miss Ardnamurchan. Especially the fact that many in Ardnamurchan know us from the last 18 years! Your photos remind me of what we missed. If we can find a bigger house that will acommodate the growing family of new wives and girlfriends, then we will be back soon!! I love to keep up to date by reading your blog. Please continue to send the news of 'almost an island' Ardnamurchan. Nothing else quite compares...Gillian from Nottingham

  4. Thank you for the comment, Gillian. So pleased to hear that you enjoy the Diary: it's a pleasure writing it, and it's good to know there are people 'out there' who enjoy it.

I think I'm right in saying that this week is the Tiree Wave Classic surfing event. Interesting weather we're having for surfing.

Hope to see you back here next year.

  5. Wow, those photos have just made me a bit emotional, but in a good way! We've only stayed in Ardnamurchan a couple of times, but completely fell in love with the place, and I'm sure it won't be long before we're back! I recognise the places in the photos and they bring back wonderful memories.

I've only just discovered this blog, but I'm going to read the rest of it now!

Funny that the only way I could be certain that you were back safely from Africa was to check the Kilchoan blog....

And, Canada, all the best information is carried in the Kilchoan Diary!
