For those of you who enjoy exploring the history and background of this beautiful place, there's a new website which is well worth a visit - given that you have the time to spare to navigate around it. It's
Gaelic Place Names of Scotland,
here.
Amongst other things, it offers quick access to a range of historic maps held by the National Library of Scotland. The entry for Mingary is an example,
here, though the database calls it Mingarry.
The Diary has no Gaelic, but is looking forward to a forthcoming course at the University of Kilchoan. In an attempt to translate some of the place names,
this Ordnance Survey site (pdf) is good, and there's a site,
here, run by a landscape photographer which is also useful.
