SM-13: Glendrian

There's been a considerable gap  since the last of the posts celebrating Ardnamurchan's scheduled monuments, but this, the thirteenth, is about Glendrian. While the site today contains the well-preserved remains of a crofting township, its recorded history goes as far back as the early 17th century, and the original clachan is almost certainly very much older.

Historic Environment Scotland's 'Statement of National Importance' for Glendrian says,"The monument is of national importance because of its potential to contribute to our understanding of post-medieval settlement and economy. Although only abandoned in the 1940s the settlement incorporates information for the earlier expansion and contraction of the community who lived here. The buildings are varied in date and style and contain evidence for the complex history of settlement on the site."

The Diary's history of Glendrian can be found here.
