Wall Repair at St Comghan's

On a day of sunshine, showers and rainbows, with the temperature so warm that....

....the midges came out specially to give them a hand, Damian and Richard were at Kilchoan's historic St Comghan's Church this morning to rebuild a section of the east wall of the graveyard which had come down, not because of marauding sheep and cattle from the adjoining Manse grazings, but....

....because the roots of a conifer planted some years ago far too close to the old wall had undermined it. Many thanks indeed to Dave Cash who had cut down the offending tree, along with a couple of others which might cause further problems.

Richard's first job was to make sure the roots were dead, after which....

....he and master stonemason Damian Summerscales (left) set about rebuilding the wall.

Many thanks to Historic Environment Scotland for giving permission to carry out the work - St Comghan's is a scheduled monument - to Highland Council for providing the funds to pay for it, and to....

....these two cheerful souls for doing the hard work.

Damo Developments does walling, brick and blockwork, plastering, roughcast, roof work, ground work, and flagging. Contact Damian at damiansummerscales@yahoo.co.uk or on 07432 531 399.

  1. The community would be much the poorer without guys such as these. Great work in maintaining the infrastructure.
