By eight yesterday evening, the summer storm seemed to have passed, with the wind going round into the southwest and dropping, and the sun coming out to stream across Kilchoan Bay. This grey heron was stalking along the edge of the water looking for his supper, but he didn't have long - an hour later the wind had risen again, bringing in more heavy rain overnight. By morning we had had 24mm, an old inch.
This was one of four herons at the back of the bay....
....and we watched another this morning wading in Lochan nan Al near the shop. He was fishing unconcerned by the blizzard of sand martins catching insects across the water's surface.
At one point we thought the martins were beginning to bother him because he crouched, but....
....this was preparatory to striking into the water....
....and catching a small fish. Perhaps, though, he really had had enough of the aggravation, because he then....
....took off and flew away.
