Sunset and Eggs

Despite a rather dismal forecast, we had a fine day yesterday, but clouds began to cover the sky in the afternoon.  This didn't prevent the sun finding a gap just in time to give us another stunning sunset - this picture taken from Kilmory by Ritchie Dinnes, with the sun setting over Canna and the mountains of Rum to the right.

While some of the small garden birds are busy feeding young which are already out of the nest, there are still eggs in small scrapes along the beaches.  It seems amazing that eggs like this are laid in such a bare 'nest', relying on camouflage while the parent is away.

This clutch of ringed plover eggs was found by Kilchoan Early Bird.  What one notices, and wonders at, is the variation in the colour and amount of speckling of the eggs.

Many thanks to Kilchoan Early Bird and Ritchie Dinnes for the pictures.
