Gannet

This picture of a gannet was taken from the north coast near Sanna, and has the bonus of having three islands layered behind it - Eigg, Rum and Skye.

There are relatively few gannets around this year and those we see aren't diving for fish.  This may be a reflection of the fact that the bait fish are late in arriving, as are the mackerel.

  1. Jon, your photographs of birds in flight are legend. Remember the geese passing Ardnamurchan point?

Jon, I really saw lots when I was up for ten days at Ormsaigbeg, Either hunting and diving off Bogha Coal Ard reef or ditto off the Mull north coast. Lots plunge diving early morning and evening off the Lighthouse point as well. The stormier the day the more gannets seem to like it.
