The Best Months of the Year

September and October are two of the best months of the year on West Ardnamurchan, a time when veils of rain drift almost lazily across the Sound, back-lit by the sun,

....and clear almost as as suddenly as they arrive, leaving strange, flying saucer-like lenticular clouds hanging in the sky.

A time when the sun can be almost unbearably bright, offering brief opportunities to top up a fading summer tan, while clouds black with thunder boil up behind Ben Hiant.

A time when there's a rainbow around every corner and a pot of gold in everyone's back garden.

These are wonderful months in which to visit the area, though it's best to come suitably prepared for whatever the weather feels like throwing at us. So it's good to see so many visitors in the villages and stepping out across hills which are still purple with the annual heather flowering.

It's a great time of year - even though there are occasional days like today, when it looks as if we'll be basking the whole day through in pure, liquid Kilchoan Sunshine.
