West Ardnamurchan Community Garden

From Richard van de Peer

Anyone who has visited the Sonachan of late, or who has travelled on the road to Portuairk, cannot have failed to notice the healthy crop of vegetables now growing in the Community Garden. The work in the garden is ongoing, with efforts over the next few months being concentrated on finishing the polytunnel, building the shed, and creating some raised beds.
We would like to thank all of you who filled in the recent questionnaire and we have now collated the results. The general feeling is that for this first year the vast majority of the vegetables should be given to the community with donations being requested for local charities.

So...we can supply medium boxes of mixed vegetables for a suggested donation of £5, for collection from Kilchoan, or if transport is a real problem, delivery to your house. The boxes will comprise a selection of the following as available:

Cabbage varieties
Kale 2 types
Chard
Rocket
Beetroot
Broccoli
Potatoes
Beans
Broad beans

In the near future we are hoping to have an outlet in Kilchoan for individual items as well as boxes. As soon as we have finalised arrangements for this we will let you all know.

If you would like a box please give Richard a call on 01972 510 767.

  1. Here in Eastbourne I have an organic veg box from a local farm each week I have a medium size box which contains less items than the Community Garden one and I pay £12.50. Admittedly this a commercial enterprise, but I hope you get lots of takers for your charity boxes. As a visitor I would willingly order a veg box for the weeks I am in Kilchoan
    best wishes
