The game started with Kilchoan pressing hard at the Iona end, their efforts rewarded when Callum MacPhail scored.
Within two minutes Iona equalised, despite the best efforts of Kilchoan goalie Justin Cameron.
Shortly afterwards, Kilchoan lost its captain to an injury, but the score remained 1-1 at half time.
What followed was football at its best, with both sides pressing hard. The game could have gone either way, but it was Iona who scored next....
.... only to have Kilchoan come back within minutes with an equaliser from Liam Anderson.
For the next period, Iona seized the advantage, and managed a goal which brought the score to 2-3.
Kilchoan continued to work hard, but Iona scored again to make it 2-4.
Soon after, a well-taken penalty by Richard van de Peer brought Kilchoan back into contention.
Both Gordon MacKenzie....
....and Ricki Clark starred in defence....,
.....Ricky going down to cramp towards the end of the game. But, try as Kilchoan did, they were unable to score again.
For the spectators, this was a great evening's entertainment, far better than going through the agony of watching a certain tennis player taking his fans through the usual agony on the centre court at Wimbledon.
Many thanks to Stewart Pote for the action photographs.
